Milford’s Progressive Health, a community-based rehabilitation program for adults who have sustained traumatic brain injuries (TBI), is hosting its annual 5K race to help raise funds for brain injury awareness.
The Brain Injury Association of Pennsylvania will utilize the funds for programs around the state that focus on education, advocacy, and awareness. New brain injuries strike an estimated 1.4 million individuals in the United States annually. Additionally, in Pennsylvania alone, there are approximately 250,000 people living with the effects from a TBI.
This year, Progressive’s 5K team of organizers, led by newcomer Barbra Venezia, are celebrating the many accomplishments of their clients and those who have helped them along the way.
“Our clients, their family members and friends, our staff members and this community have all struggled together to achieve amazing victories. We believe they are all superheroes and we want to celebrate all they do. That’s why this year we will be hosting the Superhero 5K,” said Venezia.
The event will be held on Saturday, May 16, starting at Ann Street Park in Milford at 9:00 a.m. For avid runners, it’s a 5K timed by Fast Finishes; for beginner runners, a fun, supportive run; for kids, families, and those who don’t run, a healthy 1 mile walk; for those on two wheels, a good 1 mile wheelchair roll.
