Ready to Try Yoga?
One of the most difficult aspects of beginning yoga is the sense of intimidation. Beginner yoga classes are often just a euphemism for yoga that is anything but beginner-oriented. Instructors are less than welcoming, and everyone else is bending like pretzels in the first five-minutes. Feel frustrated?
We understand.
So let’s put an end to that, and state that Beginner Yoga–that is for beginners only–is coming to Jen Murphy Fitness on Wednesday, June 26. Everyone interested in trying yoga is welcome. And the classes are free for members and non-members.
Need to increase your flexibility? Want to feel better, less tired, less stressed? Do you want to find time within your frenetically-paced day to unwind, and relax?
If so, this class is for you.
Why Yoga at All? I’m Not Granola, and Don’t Want to Run Around with a Yoga Mat Under My Arm
We understand, and that’s why this class is perfect for you.
But if you want to feel better, calmer, and more at peace, here’s how yoga can help:
In many cultures yoga is recognized as medicinal, integrating an individual’s physical, mental and spiritual characteristics to improve aspects of health, particularly stress-related illnesses.
Yogic practices can lead to tranquility of the mind, often creating a sense of well-being, feelings of relaxation, improved self-confidence, increased attentiveness, lower irritability, and the promotion of a more optimistic outlook on life.
Of course, practicing yoga enhances muscular strength and body flexibility.
What Happens When You Practice Yoga Longer-Term?
Regular yoga practice is shown to encourage characteristics of friendliness, compassion, and self-control. Over greater time, sustained practice can lead to important outcomes such as changes in life perspective, self-awareness, and an improved sense of energy to live life fully, and with genuine enjoyment.
Yogic practices can inhibit areas in the brain responsible for fear, aggressiveness and rage, and stimulate the rewarding pleasure centers leading to a state of bliss and pleasure. This results in lower anxiety, heart rate, respiratory rate, blood pressure, and cardiac output. A number of studies have even demonstrated that consistent practice may improve depression for some people.
Yoga encourages one to relax, slow the breath and focus on the present, This relaxation response is calming and restorative, and has been shown to result in more restful sleep.
What Can You Expect From This Class?
As this class has been structured for those without yoga experience, it is truly for beginners. Experienced yogis are strongly encouraged to attend a class that is more suitable to their abilities.
During the Beginner Yoga classes, everyone will be given encouragement, support and kindness, as they begin their yoga journey.
In each class, everyone will be introduced to the fundamentals of yoga practice in a welcoming, judgement-free environment. Basic movements will proceed in a safe manner that will allow progress at a rate appropriate to the need and desire of the individual.
